Boston BID is working in partnership with numerous local organisations with the intention of joining the Britain in Bloom competition this year. The competition looks at improvements that have been made to an area by the use of sympathetic, planting in public spaces, community involvement in eco schemes, area clean ups and best kept gardens/neighbourhood competitons as well as projects which look at sustainability and recycling.
There are already several qualifying projects already underway in Boston and the Bloom scheme would allow these to be brought together to gain recognition both locally and nationally, although it must be said that the Britain in Bloom competition is a long term project as most entrants do not see an immediate award but rather see improvements over a number of years which ultimately leads to an award being made.
A steering group has been formed and will be contacting communities to encourage them to get involved in the scheme and the BID is confident that local businesses will wish to become involved. We will of course run the hanging basket scheme again this year, the colour scheme is to be red white and blue to celebrate the Queens jubilee year and application forms will be posted on this website in due course.
More detailed information on the Bloom competition will be made available shortly but in the meantime if any business wishes to get involved please contact the BID manager.
The Department for Communities and Local Government has introduced a competition for 12 towns to act as pilot towns to implement some of the recommendations contained in the Mary Portas review of the high street.
On Thursday 15th March Boston BID Ltd is holding a General Meeting at the Assembly Rooms Boston.
This competition is operated by the Royal Horticultural Society with the aim of improving the environment and street scene in towns, villages and cities throughout the United Kingdom.
